Can an Algorithm Understand the Human Heart? Why I’m Bringing "There's Still Time" to Life

For the past few months, I have been living inside a notebook.

It’s a simple notebook, filled with scribbles, coffee stains, and the story of two people I’ve come to love deeply: Joe and Lydia Mitchell. Today, I am finally stepping out of those pages to ask for your help in bringing their story into the world through my Head Start funding campaign.

My Notebook

The story of There's Still Time began with a strange question: What happens when the most clinical, artificial thing meets the most messy, human experience?

In the book, Joe and Lydia are in their eighties, navigating the quiet, often painful routine of Lydia’s fading memory. Their daughter, Sarah, gifts them a novel written entirely by AI called Hearts & Algorithms. It’s full of terrible prose - sentences about "empathy patches" and "optimal embracing techniques."

It’s absurd. It’s silly. But for Joe and Lydia, this clumsy attempt to define romance becomes the spark that ignites their own authentic, imperfect memories.

As Joe reads this AI-generated story to Lydia, their real life is reaching a crisis point. A neurologist’s diagnosis has given Lydia a terrifying timeline, and a sudden medical emergency leaves her physically present but mentally unreachable.

There is a moment in the book where the AI character learns to love his partner even when she is "at zero percent." That phrase struck me as I wrote it. Because in our world of "optimization" and "efficiency," we often forget that love isn't an outcome. It’s a daily, imperfect practice of choosing each other.

Why I Need Your "Head Start"

Right now, There's Still Time exists in my notebooks and digital drafts. To turn it into a physical book - to get it edited, printed, and into the hands of readers - I need your support.

This Head Start campaign isn't just about pre-ordering a book. It’s about:

  • Funding the first print run.

  • Sharing a story that honors caregivers and the reality of dementia.

  • Validating the idea that even when time is short, it is still deeply meaningful.

How You Can Join the Journey

I’ve put together some special rewards for supporters, from early digital copies to limited edition signed paperbacks.

If you’ve ever loved someone through a difficult season, if you’ve ever felt the sting of a ticking clock, or if you simply believe that human stories matter more than algorithms - I would be honored to have your support.

Thank you for believing that there is still time to tell this story.

The Common Voice

I've asked NotebookLM to go through all of my works, published and unpublished, and see if it could find a common voice, a signature. If so, what would it be able to say about the author? Below is the
